The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revoked 278 small-scale mining licenses nationwide, citing violations of mining regulations and expired operational permits.

The decision, announced by the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 23, forms part of the government’s renewed effort to bring order and accountability to the small-scale mining sector.

Mr. Schandorf explained that the revocation targeted operators who failed to meet environmental and safety requirements or continued mining activities beyond their license validity period.

The action, which reflects Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah’s stance on restoring discipline in the sector, follows years of government concern over illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and its impact on Ghana’s environment and water bodies.

This latest development signals the government’s tougher approach to sector reform as part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable and environmentally responsible mining practices
